Book
Review:
(reviewed 3/7/02)
ˇFLAMENCO! Photographs by Ken Hass, Text by Gwynne
Edwards
This book is a gorgeous hardcover coffee table book.
It is packed with stunning photographs, both color and black & white.
The book also is divided into four chapters, with a bibliography, and sources of
the illustrations throughout the book. The chapters in the book trace the
beginnings and the evolution of flamenco. The author discusses how
centuries of folk tradition evolved into entertainment by professional dancers
& musicians such as we see today.
I enjoyed the book thoroughly, and it led me to a deeper
understanding and appreciation of the beautiful art form I practice and
love. The book is expensive at $40.00, but I would recommend it to those
who love the art and beauty of flamenco, or are just interested in learning
about the history of the dance, music and its people.

Video
Review:
FLAMENCO : A film by Carlos Saura
100 minutes of pure, powerful knock-out performances by some of Spain's and
the world's best
known and not so known beloved flamenco artists.
This dancing, strumming, singing and beautifully
filmed video masterfully
combines visual imagery with some of the most powerful performances ever
captured on video. Fire up the VCR, turn up the volume and be ready to be
blown away! A MUST
for all flamenco lovers and those who just plain enjoy
watching performing artists at their best. Raw passion plus!
